And Canada takes Silver
Down by one, tied, down by two, tied, overtime,.....and the USA scores....all be it VERY simplified that's pretty much how the game went last night. Another epic game between Canada and the U.S, isn't any rivalry between Canada & the U.S epic?? ha!
Apparently looking at the scheduel for the IIHF World Juniors in Buffalo next year, you'll notice that Canad & America son't face eachother in the preliminary rounds of the tournament, we will have to wait until the teams meet in the Semi Finals....and they will, of course.

Cole Harbour Native traded to Saint John Sea Dogs!!!

Since arriving in the Port City in a trade with the Val-d'Or Foreurs, the 19-year-old has been solid in three games with the Sea Dogs, registering a plus-3. The rugged rearguard from Cole Harbour, N.S., has also set a good example in the gym.
"He stays after practice and does extra work and looks after himself,'' Sea Dogs associate coach and hockey operations director Mike Kelly said. "Those are the types of people you want to have around your 17-year-old kids to help show them what it takes.''
Morin, who's 6-feet and 191 pounds, has dished out his share of hits since his first game with Saint John, a 5-4 road win over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan on Dec. 27.
"That's always been my style of game - hitting as much as I can and just trying to make a good first pass and keep it simple,'' Morin said after a recent practice at Harbour Station. "In the first few games, I wanted to make a good impression and I put myself out of position a few times (while making hits), but I've settled down in the last few days and I feel comfortable now. We have a lot of offensively-skilled defencemen and I'm going to hang back a bit and play a little bit more defensive.''
Morin, who was acquired on Dec. 19 for fellow 19-year-old defenceman Benjamin Lecomte, offers more than a physical presence.
"I think he'll always have that grit and sandpaper to his game, but I think he'll settle into the way we play the game,'' Kelly said. "We're a pretty good puck-moving group back there and we think he's going to be a big part of it.
"He's proven he can be a really good penalty-killer for us, too, and that's what we're looking for - a guy who's courageous and wants to block shots. That's not an easy thing to do, it takes a lot of courage for a guy to do that, and he's got that makeup.''
Morin also offers experience, a valuable commodity for a team with championship aspirations. He appeared in 60 games last year for Val-d'Or, tallying six goals and 18 points along with 84 penalty minutes. Morin split the previous campaign between Val-d'Or and the Halifax Wolverines of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League. In 25 games with the Foreurs this season, he notched nine points while posting a plus-4.
"There's a change of culture I see from Val-d'Or - where it was a lot less intense - to coming here where every game is important,'' Morin said. "We want to be the best team at the end of the season, so every game is a battle.''
Morin's time with Val-d'Or saw him skate with Marco Scandella, a 19-year-old defenceman who played for Team Canada at this year's world juniors.
"We are good buddies and I'm glad he's having success,'' Morin said of the Minnesota Wild prospect. "He has good leadership (abilities) and he's just a good team player. He's very intense on the ice and a great all-around defenceman.''

The SPCA in Halifax/Dartmouth is working with one of the rescue groups in Ontario to save some of the dogs affected by the Breed Ban on Ontario. They are in need of responsilble people to adopt these dogs. They are also looking for Foster Homes, it's a way that you can help without making the long term commitment of adopting a dog. Remember, these dogs have gone through the behaviour assesment in Ontario and at the SPCA, they have been locked in a Kennel until being transferd to the SPCA.
This Is Tyra a female Amstaff who is living at the SPCA now, she has a face sweet enough to break your heart. Please, if you are concidering getting a dog, think about one of the dogs from Ontario. Go and meet one of the dogs, there is no harm in that. If there are restriction on any animal (such as no cats, or no other dogs in the household) from the SPCA you will be informed before you even fill out an adoption application, and that applies to all of the pets at the SPCA.

Canada VS USA for the Gold at the World Juniors
If you watched the game on New Years Eve, you know it looked like the USA was going to beat Canada for the birth into the Semi Finals, but somewhere the Hockey Gods smiled on our Canadian team again.
Will they do it again? Canada, we are after our 6th straight Gold at the Wold Juniors, and it's a rematch against the United Sates.
Now as a slightly more than casual hockey fan, it was my opinion on New Years Eve, the American were skating circles around our guys, they were faster and wanted it more. At least to me that's how it looked. Yes we forced overtime and then we went into a shoot out, but man, the USA looked good on the ice.
Tomorrow night it's a re-match for the GOLD!! Holy Jeez, six in a row for Canada, the true "Canadian six pack" But it's not going to be easy. If it's not Russia (thank you to the Swiss for knocking them out of the tournament) it's the Americans.
The Maple Leaf VS The Stars and Stripes. The Eagle VS The Beaver. National Hockey Pride is on the line......

New Years and other meanderings...
Happy 20-10! Been glued to my TV watching the world juniors. Gotta admit the USA out played us New Years Eve, but I'll take the win! Right new, as I type Canada is playing the Swiss. Pretty huge upset when they beat Russia...wild stuff....

New Years for Mel B was quiet, broke in a BBQ we got for Christmas and watched movies and hockey and movies and more movies. I think Im going to miss this idea of working three days then off for four, it's pretty sweet!!
My project this year is to take and post a picture everyday, and already I am behind. I have pictures, Just haven't posted them yet. The idea is one I got from flickr, lots pf people give this project a shot, thought I'd jump on the bandwagon. You can jump on too, just name the pictures like this 1/365 then 2/365 etc etc etc....

I took this picture On November 11th. I go to my Grandfather & Grandmothers grave site every year, and pin my poppy to the Canadian Flag that the Canadian Legion Leaves on the graves off all war vets. It's a stunning visual to see all the flags blowing proudly on this day especially. Nevember 11th is down to science, The Observance at Cole Harbour Place, then visit my Grandparents and take new pictures every year.
I did run this trough Photoshop, I upped the contrast and added a warming filter to fill in some of the washed out colour.

This one was also taken on Nov 11. Its a statue at the graveyeard where my Grandparents are. This was also run through Photoshop..Adobe Photoshop, the Sun and lens flare, what little there is, was done when the picture was taken. I brought back the highlites, boosted the shadows, and boosted the blue hue.

This was done by accident but I kinda like it....most Photograhy Teacher would cringe in the vile use of flash, but I dig it....All I did was open my flash, and take a picture of my man sitting next to me at a Mooseheads game. This is the result, cool or not, that's for you to decide, I like it. No Photoshop was used in the rendering of this picture.
