Check this out! From Lung Association of Nova Scotia

The Learn to Run program for Smokers is designed for people that smoke or who have recently quit, who wish to improve their physical activity level, health and have fun! Over the course of the eight week program participants will train for a 5 km distance, whether they walk it or run it. The next Learn to Run program will be starting up on the 1st May, concluding with a fun run in June.

The sessions will be held on Saturday mornings at 9am. We will meet at the Saint Mary’s Tower (920 Tower Rd, Halifax) and head to Point Pleasant Park for the training session. There is free parking at the SMU Tower. The training sessions will be approximately 60 minutes including a warm-up and cool down, tailored to everyone’s ability. The trainers involved in the program include experienced coaches, athletes and experienced runners. During the eight week program there will also be a couple of educational discussions on nutrition, shoe/clothing and tobacco cessation, and any other topics participants want to hear more about.

There will be a fee of $30 to cover the costs of the program. For this fee you will also receive a t-shirt with the team name on.

The aim of the program is to have fun and get active. We have had great experiences with our two previous Learn to Run programs. To see a little of one of the programs visit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VE3f9PoFnEU
