Sobering Thoughts....HRM Impared Driving Stats for January 2011
HRM Impaired Driving Statistics for January
In January, citizens and HRM Partners in Policing joined forces to continue the fight against drinking and driving.
Throughout the month, police charged 68 people - 53 men and 15 women, ranging in age from 18 to 59 - with impaired driving. Of these incidents, 28 were identified by police during their patrols, 14 were identified after a collision had occurred and 26, or 38%, were called-in by concerned citizens. Officers issued an additional 16 seven-day suspensions and one 15-day suspension to people having a blood alcohol level between 50-80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood (mg%).
Of the 68 cases, 64 involved drivers impaired by alcohol while four involved impairment by drugs. Two of the incidents involving drug impairment involved the same person.
Driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs puts everyone in danger. In December 2009, MADD Canada and the Province of Nova Scotia launched Campaign 911 which encourages people to call police with information on suspected impaired drivers. HRM Partners in Policing continue to be encouraged by the number of citizens helping to play a role in community safety. If you have information on a drunk driver, please call 911.

A V-Day story of LURVE!
Do you LURVE your man enough to defend him from an attacking Tiger...and Im not talking some chicka in the club, Im talking the striped animal....Well a woman in northern Malaysia did just that!
She smacked the beast in the head with a wooden soup ladle!
The tiger pounced on him while he was hunting squirrels near his home in a jungle settlement of the Jahai tribe. The 55-year-old woman, rushed out when she heard his screams and struck the tiger on its head with a kitchen ladle, causing it to flee immediately.
The husband was receiving treatment at a hospital for lacerations on his face and legs. He told Malaysian media that he first tried to escape by climbing a tree, but the tiger dragged him down.
"I was terrified and I used all my strength to punch the animal in the face, but it would not budge," the New Straits Times newspaper quoted him as saying. "I had to wrestle with it to keep its jaws away from me, and it would have clawed me to death if my wife had not arrived."

2011 Juno Nominees Announced!
The nominees were announced this morning for the 2011 Juno Awards, which is celebrating its 40th Anniversary.
Johnny Reid, Arcade Fire, Down With Webster, Hedley and Broken Social scene will all perform during the live telecast on March 27.
Neil Young will receive the Allan Waters Humanitarian Award that goes to an “artist whose humanitarian contributions have positively enhanced the social fabric of Canada.”
